A Basic Writing Workshop

Through multisensory activities, hands-on practice and lots of encouragement, your child will learn to bring characters to life with vivid descriptions, craft engaging dialogues, describe actions with dynamic and powerful verbs, and create exciting sounds with onomatopoeia.

Unlocking Stories:
A Step-by-Step Workshop for Better Comprehension

Understanding a story can be challenging for your child, but with the right strategies, it can become easier and more enjoyable. This 8-week workshop is specially designed to help children build the skills they need to comprehend both sentences and multi-paragraph texts. Through techniques such as annotation, visualising the story, identifying key ideas, making predictions and drawing inferences, your child will gain the tools to approach any narrative with confidence and clarity.

With step-by-step guidance, multisensory activities, and lots of encouragement, we will help your child to start on their journey to becoming a more thoughtful, engaged reader — ready to tackle any story with understanding and insight.

Workshop Details

• Objective: By the end of the 8-week workshop, students will be able to write a compelling paragraph, using the techniques they've learned to bring a segment of their story to life.

• Period: March to April 2025 (Weekly session for 8 weeks)

• Duration: 1.5 hours per session

• Suitable for: Primary 3 to 6

Workshop Details

• Objective: By the end of the 8-week workshop, students will have developed key skills to enhance their comprehension. They will be able to identify the main idea of a sentence, summarise the central theme of a narrative text, and confidently answer questions about pronoun referents. Additionally, students will gain the ability to make inferences related to characters' feelings, strengthening their overall understanding and analytical skills when reading.

• Period: March to April 2025 (Weekly session for 8 weeks)

• Duration: 1.5 hours per session

• Suitable for: Primary 3 to 6
